Hai Phong Investment Promotion Conference lays foundation for long-term, effective cooperation

The People’s Committee of Hai Phong city and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) co-organized the city Investment Promotion Conference themed “Hai Phong – Strategic gateway to the new era” on July 15 afternoon within the framework of the 3rd meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC III).

The conference was honored by the presence of President Luong Cuong.

Also in attendance were ambassadors of Germany, the United States, South Korea, and Singapore, along with representatives from foreign diplomatic missions in Vietnam, international delegations, and business organizations from 20 APEC member economies and other nations. More than 1,000 leaders from domestic and international corporations, enterprises, and investment groups also took part in the event.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau emphasized that the conference’s theme is not merely a slogan but reflects a long-term strategic vision. The city is committed to development based on the pillars of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transition, and inclusive growth, ensuring that no one is left behind.

The city will take bold actions through four strategic breakthroughs, namely developing a southern coastal economic zone, establishing a next-generation free trade zone, creating a modern, open and enabling institutional framework, and attracting high-quality human resources, Chau said.

With its strategic location, strong potential, favorable institution, and determination, Hai Phong is ready to welcome investors for long-term, mutually beneficial development. The city is committed to building a creative and drastic government that leads with determination, takes responsibility, and serves the people and business community with the highest standards.

In his keynote speech, President Luong Cuong affirmed that the conference holds not only local but also national significance. It reflects Vietnam’s spirit of comprehensive international integration, development aspirations, and commitment to improve the investment climate.

The organization of the conference highlights Hai Phong’s proactive approach, cooperation connectivity, and strategic vision as it is emerging as a key economic, industrial, and logistics center in northern Vietnam and across the country, President Cuong said.

He emphasized that Hai Phong serves as the largest export gateway in northern Vietnam, playing an increasingly critical role in regional chains.

The President welcomed investors from Asia, Europe, America, and APEC member economies who have chosen Hai Phong as the destination for their major projects.

The State leader also praised the ABAC Council for placing important topics such as digital trade, sustainable development, green energy, and smart logistics on its agenda, issues that are also key pillars in Hai Phong’s and Vietnam’s development strategies for the coming period.

In his remarks, Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Ngoc Chau highlighted the city’s remarkable socio-economic achievements and its vision for the future. He noted that the conference not only showcased impressive results in investment promotion but also reflected a strong consensus between the city authorities and the business community on the vision for development in this new era.

Driven by the ambition to rise further, Hai Phong aims to become a leading economic center in Vietnam and a strategic trade hub both regionally and globally. The city envisions itself as a major port city at the forefront of industrialization, digital transformation, green growth, and innovation. Priority sectors for development include logistics, port services, tourism, education, and science and technology.

Hai Phong is also committed to completing synchronous, multimodal infrastructure systems, while leveraging its world natural and cultural heritage to make culture a foundation for development.

The quality of residents’ lives will be continually improved, national defense and security will be safeguarded, and international integration will be deepened for a comprehensively and sustainably developed and worth-living Hai Phong.

To realize this goal and create a stable, favorable investment environment for the business community to be confident in long-term operation, Hai Phong pledges to build a creative and supportive government that acts in service of the people and businesses.

The city will continue to develop high-quality human resources and focus on strategic, modern, and integrated long-term planning. Strategic infrastructure investment will be accelerated, with priority given to major projects such as Lach Huyen Port, Nam Do Son Port, the expansion of Cat Bi International Airport, Lao Cai – Ha Noi – Hai Phong railway, the coastal expressway, connections to Gia Binh Airport, east-west city routes, Ring Roads 2 and 3, the logistics network, etc.

At the conference, Bruno Jaspaert, Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EUROCHAM), Ko Tae Yeon, Chairman of the Korean Chamber of Business in Vietnam (KOCHAM), and leaders of a number of enterprises expressed confidence in and appreciation of Hai Phong’s improving investment climate. They also pledged to continue studying and expanding their investment and support the city’s development.

On this occasion, the city People’s Committee awarded investment registration certificates to 32 projects and signed seven memorandums of understanding for investment cooperation, with total committed capital exceeding 15.6 billion USD.
