US ambassador impressed by Hai Phong’s development

Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee Le Tien Chau on July 16 hosted a reception for US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper.
Secretary Le Tien Chau warmly welcomed Ambassador Knapper to Hai Phong for his visit and participation in the 3rd APEC Business Advisory Council meeting (ABAC III) and the 2025 Hai Phong Investment Promotion Conference.
He emphasized the special significance of this visit, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 2nd anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the US.
Secretary Chau expressed sincere gratitude to the US Government and non-governmental organizations for their continued support for Hai Phong in various fields, including economy, education, and environment, over the past years. He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of American businesses and experts in shaping the city's development goals.

Following the recent merger with Hai Duong province, the new Hai Phong city boasts great potential for growth, with strong advantages in high-tech industries, seaports, logistics, commerce, services, and tourism.
The city leads the nation in such indicators as competitiveness, administrative reform, and public satisfaction. Hai Phong has maintained double-digit economic growth for ten consecutive years and is poised for an even more dynamic development phase in the future.
The secretary of the city Party Committee expressed hope that Ambassador Knapper would continue support, connection, introduction, and facilitation for many more US investors to come to Hai Phong for mutual development.
With its strategic location, outstanding potential, favorable policies, and a strong commitment to action, Hai Phong stands ready to welcome investors for long-term development.

The ambassador also shared his delight in witnessing US investors receive investment registration certificates during the event, which further strengthened his sense of responsibility to promote more US investment in Hai Phong.
Ambassador Knapper noted that in terms of trade relations, Vietnam is the US’ 8th largest trading partner, while the US is Vietnam’s 2nd largest. Many goods are transported through Hai Phong’s seaports, where smooth customs procedures and logistics support trade between the two countries.
He also highlighted close cooperation between Vietnam and the US in various sectors, including customs, naval affairs, coast guard, and healthcare, many of which are actively implemented in Hai Phong.
Looking ahead, the US will continue support and cooperation for development of green economy, high technology, digital economy, education, etc., contributing to realizing Hai Phong's development goals, the ambassador said.
