Food items and vegetables at Hai Phong markets on July 20 were sufficiently supplied to meet consumer demand, with prices remaining relatively unchanged, according to the city Department of Industry and Trade.

Meanwhile, at local supermarkets, the supply of goods increased by 80 – 100%, mainly essential items.

Due to concerns over food storage ahead of Storm No. 3 (internationally named Wipa), from the evening of July 19, customer traffic at supermarkets surged dramatically, with long lines of people purchasing essential items.

However, product prices at supermarkets remained stable compared to normal days. Despite the sharp increase in sales volume, the supply of goods was still abundant and diverse.

Given the complex developments of Storm No. 3, the city Department of Industry and Trade has instructed commercial enterprises and supermarkets to review essential reserve items and flood prevention equipment; proactively stockpile food and supplies according to approved plans; and maintain on-call duty and readiness to provide transportation and goods support upon request.

The department assigned the Market Surveillance Sub-department to closely monitor market trends and developments; strengthen supervision, inspection, and control of the market; and promptly detect and handle violations of trade laws, particularly those related to essential goods serving production, business, and people's daily lives during the storm season.

In case of natural disasters, strict measures will be taken against acts of hoarding, stockpiling, and unreasonably increasing prices, especially during the periods before, during, and immediately after a disaster, for goods such as food and construction materials.

Under the goods reserve plan for disaster prevention and search and rescue operations in 2025, the Department of Industry and Trade has carried out inspections and market controls to ensure the essential supply system throughout the city. It also worked out a goods reserve and supply plan for disaster response and search and rescue in 2025, with a total estimated value of around 57 billion VND.

Goods are stored at Aeon Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd.; Co.opmart Hai Phong One Member Co., Ltd.; GO Hai Phong Supermarket; K131 Petroleum Enterprise; and Petrolimex Area 3 Company, among others. Reserves include 24,979 boxes of instant noodles, 533 tons of rice, 7,093 boxes of bottled drinking water, 1 million liters of gasoline, and 1.1 million liters of diesel oil.
