Cat Bi international airport in Hai Phong city and Van Don international airport in Quang Ninh province resumed flight operations starting at 12 am on July 22, Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), announced at noon on the same day.

“These airports now meet the necessary conditions for receiving aircraft. However, the CAAV continues to require Cat Bi and Van Don airports to strictly follow regulations on aircraft operations under adverse weather conditions to ensure absolute safety,” Director Uong emphasized.

Due to the developments of storm No. 3 (internationally called Wipha), the CAAV had earlier issued a decision to temporarily suspend all flight operations at airports located in the storm-affected zone on July 21 and 22. Specifically, Van Don and Cat Bi airports were closed from 11 pm on July 21 to 12 am on July 22.

According to quick reports from aviation units, by 5 pm on July 21, a total of 129 flights had to be rerouted to avoid the storm on July 18, 19, and 20.

On July 21 alone, Van Don international airport canceled three flights, while Cat Bi airport canceled 33 flights.
